SINGSTRONG A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL FIGHTS ALZHEIMER’S
3 Day A cappella Music Festival Raises Money For Charity
GARDEN CITY, NY – February 9-11, 2018 –professional a cappella groups from around the world will perform with collegiate and HS groups at SingStrong International A cappella Festival at Adelphi University Performing Arts Center in Garden City, NY. SingStrong Inc. is a Public Charity and this marks its 16th a cappella festival.
SingStrong New York 2018 headliners include:
Freedom's Boombox the pop-R&B youtube sensations from NBC's The Sing Off, these singers toured 50 countries as opening act for the Backstreet Boys; Blue Jupiter just signed to Broadway Records, featuring Diana Preisler, star of the hit TV show "Pitch Slapped" on Lifetime TV in the US, South America, UK, Phillipines and Israel, performing wild reimaginings of pop and "twisted broadway"; Stacey Kay and Stiletta - a world premiere team up! The soulful singing and astonishing speed rapping of the America's Got Talent finalist combined with the the pop divas and #1 ranked a cappella group in the United States, and the only group to have ever won every single award at the Nationals; FreePlay, the Canadian jazz and world music live loopers; Classic Sounds the award-winning doo-wop champions; Lustre the #1 ranked barbershop quartet in the world and Greater Nassau Chorus champion Sweet Adeline's barbershop chorus ranked #7 in the world!; Musta Lammas ("Black Sheep") winners of the prestigious 2017 AAVF Choir Competition in Aarhus Denmark, as well as being the first group from Finland to ever win; Resound the Virginia-based gospel group that made Arianna Grande tweet " their voices... the arrangement.... their musicality.... i can't tell u how many times i've watched this. i luv them!”; Maze one of Finland's top groups is here to compete in ACA-IDOL and because of their recent awards and unique style, they're also joining the pro groups!

The all-vocal event consists of five concerts and two days of classes and coachings, all featuring nothing but the human voice. Event profits support charity, with a silent auction to benefit the fight against Alzheimer's, and ticket and merchandise proceeds supporting music programs with a special focus on singing and a cappella music.
Audiences will hear pop, jazz, rock, broadway, barbershop, reggae-tone, beatbox and more -all performed a cappella. Groups will use only their voices to perform melodies, harmonies and to vocally imitate a virtual orchestra of sounds –including vocal drums, vocal trumpet, vocal electric guitar and a vocal synthesizers –all without instruments of any kind.
The SingStrong 7PM Friday Night Concert, “ACA-IDOL,” is an a cappella competition for semi-professional and collegiate groups in the style of X-Factor, America's Got Talent and American Idol. Performers give their best 10 minutes. Celebrity judges give live feedback. First place is $1,000, and audience members get to vote using their cell phones to help determine the winner. Freedom's Boombox is set to judge!
The SingStrong 7PM Saturday Night Main Event Concert features multiple professional a cappella groups including Finland's Musta Lammas, Freedom's Boombox, New York's Blue Jupiter with Diana Preisler, and more!
Sat at 8:30PM, the 40 minutes between concerts features a silent auction to benefit the fight against Alzheimer's.
The SingStrong 9:30PM Saturday Night Main Event Concert features an entirely separate collection of multiple professional a cappella groups including Stacey Kay with Stiletta, Virginia's Resound, Canada's FreePlay, DC's Lustre and more!
The SingStrong matinee concert on Saturday at 2PM features a High School Competition with awards for performance, arranging and composition, as judged by respected a cappella educators and a performance of the Single Singers, an open group that anyone can join!
The SingStrong matinee concert on Sunday at 2PM features more new professional a cappella groups and a few encore performances from Saturday including Greater Nassau Chorus, Maze, Freedom's Boombox, Musta Lammas, FreePlay, Stacey Kay and Stiletta, Lustre and more!
Beginning at 9:30AM on Saturday and 10AM on Sunday, SingStrong will present two days worth of classes on such topics as stage presence, forming and directing an a cappella group, beatboxing, vocal health, and musical arranging. From beginners to pros, these classes are designed to help anyone interested in a cappella take their skills to the next level. Attending a cappella groups will also enjoy free private coachings with their weekend passes. For participating schools, BOCES Arts in Education may allow HS students to attend SingStrong at greatly reduced rates (see details).
For singers without a group, or those who just can't get enough singing, SingStrong offers The Single Singers. Attendees sign up, get their music online, practice independently, and then rehearse for just a few hours on Friday and Saturday at SingStrong before they perform on the MainStage Saturday at 2PM. Members range from tween to octogenarian. Perfect for busy families who love to sing together. And a great opportunity for alumni of a cappella groups to become rock stars again.
